GANÂNCIA

Definição: Ambição desmedida de ganho, quer seja dinheiro quer bens materiais.
1. Embora o objetivo da ganância seja a satisfação, invariavelmente só resulta em maior infelicidade.
Provérbios 15:27a O que se dá à cobiça perturba a sua própria casa.
Provérbios 27:20 O inferno e a perdição nunca se fartam, e os olhos do homem nunca se satisfazem. [Ver também Ec 4:8b.]
Eclesiastes 5:10 O que ama o dinheiro nunca se fartará dele; quem ama a abundância nunca se farta da renda. Isto também é vaidade.
Eclesiastes 5:12 Doce é o sono do trabalhador, quer coma pouco quer muito, mas a fartura do rico não o deixa dormir.
1 Timóteo 6:9,10 Mas os que querem ficar ricos caem em tentação e em laço, e em muitas concupiscências loucas e nocivas, as quais submergem os homens na ruína e perdição [maldição, morte espiritual]. 10 Porque o amor do dinheiro é raiz de todos os males; e nessa cobiça alguns se desviaram da fé, e se traspassaram a si mesmos com muitas dores.
2. A ganância é característica dos ímpios e conduz a mais impiedade.
Salmo 73:12 São assim os ímpios; sempre em segurança, e as suas riquezas aumentam.
Provérbios 28:22 Aquele que tem olhos invejosos corre atrás das riquezas, mas não sabe que a pobreza o aguarda.
Jeremias 5:27,28 Como uma gaiola cheia de pássaros, são as suas casas cheias de engano; engrandeceram-se e enriqueceram, 28 tornaram-se gordos e nédios. Os seus feitos malignos não tem limites; não julgam a causa dos órfãos, para que prosperem, nem defendem o direito dos necessitados.
Oséias 12:7 [Um quadro do materialista ganancioso:] O mercador tem balança enganadora em sua mão; ele ama a opressão.
3. A ganância gera pobreza espiritual e ruína.
Marcos 8:36,37 Que aproveitaria ao homem ganhar o mundo todo e perder a sua alma? 37 Ou que daria o homem em troca da sua alma?
Lucas 12:16-21 E [Jesus] propôs-lhes esta parábola: O campo de um homem rico produziu com abundância. 17 Então ele arrazoava consigo mesmo, dizendo: Que farei? Não tenho onde recolher os meus frutos. 18 E disse: Farei isto: Derrubarei os meus celeiros, e edificarei outros maiores, e aí recolherei todo o meu produto e todos os meus bens. 19 Então direi à minha alma: Alma, tens em depósito muitos bens para muitos anos. Descansa, come, bebe e folga. 20 Mas Deus lhe disse: Louco, esta noite te pedirão a tua alma. Então o que tens preparado, para quem será? 21 Assim é aquele que para si ajunta tesouros, e não é rico para com Deus.
Provérbios 11:24b Outro retém mais do que e justo, e se empobrece.
Eclesiastes 5:13 Há um grave mal que vi debaixo do sol: as riquezas que os seus donos guardam para o seu próprio dano.
Habacuque 2:9,10 Ai daquele que ajunta em sua casa bens mal adquiridos, para pôr o seu ninho no alto, a fim de se livrar das garras do mal! 10 Vergonha maquinaste para a tua casa; destruindo tu a muitos povos, pecaste contra a tua alma.
Lucas 1:53 Encheu de bens os famintos, e despediu vazios os ricos.
Lucas 16:25 [Abraão fala com o ganancioso homem rico que não pensou nos pobres:] Mas Abraão respondeu: Filho, lembra-te de que recebeste os teus bens em tua vida, ao passo que Lázaro somente males, mas agora ele é consolado e tu atormentado.
Tiago 5:3 O vosso ouro e a vossa prata se enferrujaram. A sua ferrugem dará testemunho contra vós, e devorará a vossa carne como fogo. Entesourastes nos últimos dias.
Apocalipse 3:17 Dizes: Rico sou, e estou enriquecido, e de nada tenho falta. Mas não sabes que és um coitado, e miserável, e pobre, e cego, e nu.
4. Não adianta nada ser ganancioso.
Jó 20:15 Engoliu fazendas [conjunto de bens], mas vomitá-las-á; do seu ventre Deus as lançará.
Salmo 39:6 Todo homem anda como uma sombra: em vão se inquieta; amontoa riquezas, sem saber quem as levará.
Provérbios 10:2a Os tesouros da impiedade de nada aproveitam.
Provérbios 21:6 Trabalhar por ajuntar tesouro com língua falsa é vaidade, e aqueles que a isso são impelidos buscam a morte.
Provérbios 23:4,5 Não te canses para enriqueceres; dá de mão à tua própria sabedoria. 5 Fitarás os olhos naquilo que não é nada? Porque certamente isso fará para si asas, e voará ao céu como a águia. [Ver também Jo 6:27.]
Ageu 1:6 Semeais muito, e recolheis pouco. Comeis, mas não vos saciais. Vestis-vos, mas ninguém se aquece. O que recebe salário, recebe-o para pô-lo num saco furado. [Ver também Ec 5:14a.]
Apocalipse 18:14,16b O fruto que a atua alma cobiçava foi-se de ti. Todas as coisas delicadas e suntuosas foram-se de ti, e não mais as acharás. 16b Numa só hora foram assoladas tantas riquezas!
5. A ganância não se enquadra na obra do Senhor, principalmente entre líderes.
1 Samuel 8:3 [Como os filhos de Eli, os dois filhos de Samuel foram uma vergonha total.] Porém seus filhos não andaram nos caminhos dele, antes se inclinaram à avareza [ganho material, proveito], aceitaram subornos e perverteram o juízo.
1 Timóteo 3:3 [Referindo-se a um líder dentro da igreja, Paulo escreveu que tem que ser] não dado ao vinho, não espancador, mas moderado, inimigo de contendas, não ganancioso.
1 Timóteo 6:5 [Os que rejeitam as Palavras de Deus estão cheios de] contendas de homens corruptos de entendimento, e privados da verdade, cuidando que a piedade é fonte de lucro. [Ver versículos 3-6.]
Tito 1:7 É necessário que o bispo [supervisor] seja irrepreensível, como despenseiro de Deus, não soberbo, nem irascível, nem dado ao vinho, nem espancador, nem cobiçoso de torpe ganância. [Ver também 1Tm 3:8.]
1 Pedro 5:2 Apascentai o rebanho de Deus que está entre vós, tendo cuidado dele, não por força, mas voluntariamente, não por torpe ganância, mas de boa vontade.
2 Pedro 2:3a [Pedro descreveu os falsos profetas e os religiosos gananciosos:] Por ganância, farão de vós negócio, com palavras fingidas.
6. O caminho para a “felicidade” é feito de contentamento, não de ganhos e ganância.
Salmo 37:16 Vale mais o pouco que tem o justo, do que as riquezas de muitos ímpios.
Provérbios 16:8 Melhor é o pouco, com justiça, do que grandes rendas, com injustiça. [Ver também 17:1; Ec 4:6.]
Provérbios 30:8,9 Afasta de mim a vaidade e a palavra mentirosa; não me dês nem a pobreza nem a riqueza, mas dá-me só o pão que me é necessário, 9 para que de farto eu não Te negue, e diga: Quem é o Senhor? ou empobrecendo, não venha a furtar, e profane o nome de Deus.
Filipenses 4:11, 12 Não digo isto por causa de necessidade, pois já aprendi a contentar-me em toda e qualquer situação.
12 Sei passar necessidade, e também sei ter abundância. Em toda maneira, e em todas as coisas aprendi tanto a ter fartura, como a ter fome, tanto a ter abundância, como a padecer necessidade.
1 Timóteo 6:6-8 De fato, é grande fonte de lucro a piedade com o contentamento. 7 Porque nada trouxemos para este mundo, e nada podemos levar dele; 8 tendo, porém, sustento e com que nos vestir, estejamos contentes.
Hebreus 13:5 Seja a vossa vida sem avareza, contentando-vos com o que tendes, pois Ele mesmo disse: Não te deixarei, nem te desampararei.

GREED

Definition: immoderate gain Ambition, whether cash or material goods.
1. Although the purpose of greed is the satisfaction invariably only results in greater unhappiness.
Proverbs 15: 27a What is greedy of gain troubles his own house.
Proverbs 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full, and the eyes of man are never satisfied. [See also Ecclesiastes 4: 8b.]
Ecclesiastes 5:10 Whoever loves money never satisfied him; who loves abundance never tired of income. This is also vanity.
Ecclesiastes 5:12 Sweet is the worker's sleep, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.
1 Timothy 6: 9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition [curse, spiritual death]. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil; which some coveting have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
2. Greed is characteristic of the wicked and leads to more ungodliness.
Psalm 73:12 So are the wicked; always secure, and their wealth increase.
Proverbs 28:22 He that hath envious eyes run after wealth, but does not know that poverty awaits him.
Jeremiah 5: 27-28 Like a cage full of birds, are their houses full of deceit; It ennobled and enriched, 28 became fat and nédios. Their evil deeds have no limits; They do not judge the cause of the fatherless, to prosper, not defend the right of the needy.
Hosea 12: 7 [A picture of greedy materialistic:] The merchant has dishonest scales in his hand; he loves to defraud.
3. Greed generates spiritual poverty and ruin.
Mark 8: 36-37 What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Luke 12: 16-21 [Jesus] offered them this parable: The ground of a certain rich man produced abundantly. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops. 18 And he said, I will do this: pull down my barns, and build greater, and there gather all my product and all my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years. Rest, eat, drink and play. 20 But God said to him: Thou fool, this night will ask you your soul. So what you have prepared, whose will they be? 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Proverbs 11: 24b Another withholds more than is fair, and is impoverished.
Ecclesiastes 5:13 There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun: riches that their owners keep to your own harm.
Habakkuk 2: 9-10 Woe to him who gather in their home badly assets acquired, to set his nest on high in order to get rid of the clutches of evil! 10 shame to your house; Thou many people, you have sinned against your soul.
Luke 1:53 He hath filled the hungry and sent the rich empty.
Luke 16:25 [Abraham speaks to the greedy rich man who did not think the poor:] But Abraham said, Son, remember that you received your good things in your life, whereas Lazarus evil things, but now he is comforted and thou art tormented.
James 5: 3 Your gold and silver is cankered. Its rust will be evidence against you, and shall eat your flesh like fire. Heaped treasure together in the last days.
Revelation 3:17 Thou sayest, I am rich, and I am rich, and have need of nothing. But knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.
4. There's no point being greedy.
Job 20:15 Swallowed farms [set of goods], but it will spew them; of their womb God shall cast.
Psalm 39: 6 Every man walks like a shadow: in vain is restless; piles up wealth, not knowing who will lead them.
Proverbs 10: 2a Treasures of wickedness profit nothing.
Proverbs 21: 6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is vanity, and those who are so seek death.
Proverbs 23: 4,5 Do not tire yourself to be rich; gives hand to your own wisdom. 5 Fitarás eyes what it is not? For surely this will themselves wings, and fly to the sky like an eagle. [See also John 6:27.]
Haggai 1: 6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little. I eat, but do not be filled with drink. Clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. The receiving salary, gets it to put it into a bag with holes. [See also Eccl. 5: 14a]
Revelation 18: 14,16b The fruit that acts soul lusted after was to you. All things were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more. 16b In one hour so great riches!
5. Greed does not fit the work of the Lord, especially among leaders.
1 Samuel 8: 3 [. As the sons of Eli, the two sons of Samuel were a complete disgrace] And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre [gain material advantage], took bribes and perverted judgment .
1 Timothy 3: 3 [Referring to a leader within the church, Paul wrote that has to be] not given to wine, not violent but gentle, quarrelsome, not greedy.
1 Timothy 6: 5 [Those who reject God's words are filled with] strife of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of profit. [See verses 3-6.]
Titus 1: 7 It is necessary that the bishop [supervisor] must be blameless, as the steward of God, not proud, nor irascible, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre. [See also 1 Timothy 3: 8.]
1 Peter 5: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly, not for filthy lucre, but of good will.
2 Peter 2: 3a [Peter described the false prophets and greedy religious:] For greed will exploit you with deceptive words.
6. The road to "happiness" is made of contentment, not profit and greed.
Psalm 37:16 Better is the little that a righteous than the riches of many wicked.
Proverbs 16: 8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice. [See also 17: 1; Ec 4: 6].
Proverbs 30: 8-9 Remove far from me vanity and a lying word; not me or des poverty nor riches, but give me the food that you need me, 9 so fed up I do not deny Thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or impoverishing, will not steal, and take the name of God.
Philippians 4:11 12 Not that I speak in respect of want, for I have learned to content myself in any situation.
12 I know to be in need, and I know how to abound. In any case, and in all things I learned both to be filled, and to be hungry, both to abound, and to suffer need.
1 Timothy 6: 6-8 Indeed, it is great gain in godliness with contentment. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and nothing can take it; 8 But having sustenance and to wear us be therewith content.
Hebrews 13: 5 Let your life without covetousness; and be content yourselves with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will not leave you nor forsake you.
7. Follow the path of altruism!
